Recommended Books and Articles

  • A good article on shopping for wine. This article is not only informative but also parctical. For those of you who are still a bit intimidated when you walk into a wine shop, we suggest you give it a read.
  • Good article from Fred Tasker of Knight Ridder Newspapers.
  • It's always important to see different viewpoints. Here's one from Mike Steinberger with an article titled "Wine for Tightwads". Mike gives a sometimes-humorous view into cheap wines you can actually drink (and others you can't).
  • Thor Iverson of the Boston Phoenix gives us suggestions for a selection of wines under $15.
  • John from New York chimes in on one of his favorites
  • Another selection from John
  • Although a bit dated, this article from Mike Dunne of the Sacramento Bee gives us three more Good Wine Cheap selections. Let's just hope the prices are around the same as they were in 2001.
  • And here's a great book that teaches you the fundamentals about wine and well worth the $25.95. It's called "How and Why To Build a Wine Cellar" by Richard M. Gold, PHD. A construction guide for home wine cellars based on the science of deep soil temperatures. Invokes modern readily available materials and standard construction techniques. This book is ideal for the do-it-yourselfer or hired carpenter. Also reviews wine purchasing and consuming strategies, bin design and construction, how to organize a wine tasting group, and more. An underground classic, first published in 1983. Revised third edition. Over 24,000 copies in circulation. Here's what the master Robert M. Parker, Jr., author of The Wine Advocate says
To Richard Gold - The wine cellar maven who has probably saved more fine wine from damaging temperature extremes than anyone alive. All the best, Bob Worried about your wine? Don't call 911. Buy Gold's wine cellar reference book and save your treasures from any damage. All the best, Bob
