The Wolftrap 2010 Syrah Mourvedre Viognier

A really cheap wine and delicious to drink.  This wine went great with grilled steak.  A dark red, powerful wine.  The blackberry taste is really quite simple but absolutely wonderful to drink.   I had read that Boekenhoutskloof is a syrah specialist and some of the best Syrah’s come out of South Africa.  Worthy to try again.

Winemakers Note

Both the Syrah and Mourvedre component come from a Malmesbury vineyard with the Viognier sourced on Boekenhoutskloof. The reds were fermented using selected Rhone strain yeasts. French oak matured with Viognier blended prior to bottling.  Full of black fruits, red and black berries with some violet flavours. Smooth on the palate with some fresh aromas of wild strawberries and cherries .

E. Guigal Cotes Du Rhone 2007 Rouge

E. Guigal Cotes Du Rhone is so smooth and has so much going on!  After doing some research, I learned that the Rhone Valley wines in southern France tend to be more full-bodied with a spicy taste which this wine definitely has. It is the Holiday season, so enjoy a delicious glass of Cotes Du Rhone rouge by the fire.

Penfolds Koonunga Hill 2009 Shiraz Cabernet

This Shiraz Cabernet is bold, oaky, spicy and dark.  This Australian wine is a great value a crowd pleaser and a wonderful tasting red blend!  Sooooo cheap.

Cecchi Bonizio Sangiovese di Maremma 2009

This seems to me to be a really versatile wine and can be paired with a variety of meals or another stand alone wine.  The Sangiovese grape is home to Italy and when we visited Florence we had a chance to enjoy this type of wine as it was readily available. As for the taste, it is not too complex and does seem a little dry and earthy.  Great price!

J.Lohr Los Osos 2008 Paso Robles Merlot

This merlot is very appealing to the senses.  The color is dark ruby and has a wonderful fruity flavor.  It is really easy to enjoy this smooth, medium bodied wine.  We paired this merlot with a hearty steak and potatoe dinner.  Delicious!

Mario Ercolino Sicilia 2009 Saserello

Its Italian!!!!! This wine is a combination of four different types of grapes (merlot, cabernet, syrah, and sangiovese-a red, Italian grape variety). To say this wine is complex is an understatement. It is very smooth and the mixed flavors of berry and a subtle hint of sweet cherry certainly bring it a unique taste. This bottle was only $11.99. An excellent deal for this special wine.

Bogle 2009 Petite Sirah

This California Wine is a mouthful. Better to share the Winemakers Notes on this one~! Voluptuous and full-bodied on the entry, the heady aromas of black currants and plums awaken the senses. Lusciously jammy and inky in appearance, the concentrated fruit wraps itself around tones of pipe tobacco, leather and cocoa, to mesmerize the palate. Juniper and spice seduce the supple tannins, as this wine finishes long and lingering, but not before a final touch of acidity charms the balanced mouthfeel yet again.

Makes you want to have a taste? Very reasonably priced too!

Torre Ercilla 2006 Rioja Reserva

We have tasted so many delicious wines from Spain, this one included.  The Torre Ercilla 2006 has a deep, rich flavor with a ruby red color.  The acidity is very low and I love the blackberry taste and smell.  Matching this up with steak would be perfect.  I would also enjoy this with some heavier appetizers.
