Conde de Farnals, Moscatel, 2002, Valencia, Spain

This wine is made from the Muscat of Alexandria grape and offers a sweet, rich wine that has hints of orange, honey, and a small amount of spice. The Muscat grape is known to grow very well in warmer climates, such as those found in the southeastern part of Spain. We served this wine with a pear, almond dessert. The wine has an orangy, honey essence that worked well with the subtle flavors of pear and almonds. Most dessert wine are heavy and syrupy but this wine is somewhat lighter (both in flavor and on the wallet).
