This wine did not have a lot of personality - 2007 Pancake Cellers, Big Day White, White Blend

Blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 27% Chardonnay, 12% Gewurztraminer, 1% Pinot Blanc

I basically bought this wine to see if the product was as creative as the label.

The blend scared me a little because I do not prefer sweet wines as a rule unless it is Port. That is another story.

Gewurztraminer is too sweet for me. When I was 20 and drinking Inglenook Chablis in the big jugs, the sweet whites were fine. Now they give me a headache. But for $4.99 a bottle, what could I lose? Maybe I could at least steam the label off and use it as decoration somewhere.

I am a Chardonnay drinker, more often than not. (Ok, I confess, I am a wine drinker). Since I’ve found that for the most part you cannot expect a wine to taste the same from year to year or bottle to bottle, I cannot tell you why I like Chardonnay. And besides, who can remember? I don’t like them sweet and sometimes Chardonnays are sweet.

This wine did not have a lot of personality. It reminded me of drinking a glass a some soft drink that had ice in it and sat until the ice was gone and so was the flavor. Still a bit sweet but nothing that could be recognized. Ouch!

I know someone worked hard to blend a wine they liked and I am sorry for that. It is hard to make a blend. This tastes too strongly of the Gewurztraminer and too little of the other three in the blend for me.

So I would say my standard for wine such as this one is:
After the first glass, it doesn’t matter.

This is a drinkable wine, but not memorable.

Good thing there was only “about 100 unruly grapes for the making of this wine before they did some damage”. I think they did some damage. I feel a headache coming on.
