Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne Laforet Pinot Noir - 2005
For the price, I have to admit this was a pretty good wine, which is saying a lot for a Burgundy. We served it with pan seared mustard crusted salmon and French lentils. The wine had a nice deep ruby color and the nose was full of fresh berries. It was a soft wine and easy to drink, but admittedly lacked the depth of a more expensive burgundy. We usually try several wines during a dinner party and we poured this wine first. Our second wine was a Claret from Oregon (see A to Z review). The preferred wine for the evening was definitely this Drouhin Pinot. The fruitiness from the berry flavors worked very well with the spicyness of the mustard on the salmon but was not overpowering for the lentils that offer more delicate flavors. There was also a hint of the earthiness that you find in Burgundy’s that makes it an easy wine to pair with food. I highly recommend this wine and it should work well with a variety of foods.
